This iconic hotel first opened in 1928 for the 1929 Ibero- American Exhibition with the ambition to become the grandest hotel in Europe. The history of the hotel Alfonso XIII is intimately linked to weddings since 1928 when it was inaugurated for the infant Isabel Alfonsa and Count Juan Zamoyski’s wedding. The hotel’s interior decoration is still resplendent with the original wall-tiles, which follow two distinct styles: hand crafted and hand painted azulejos made by local artisans and the highly recognizable Mensaque tiles with their characteristic metallic sheen. The original crystal chandeliers around the central courtyard are made from Bohemian crystal. The gardens also have examples of exotic plants brought in for the opening… among them the rare and beautiful ‘coral tree” beside the hotel entrance. The luxurious rooms are decorated in three different styles: Andalusian, Moorish and Castilian and the suites are exquisitely furnished with antiques. Best Gastronomy: The famous San Fernando restaurant is unmistakably Andalusian in an idyllic setting serving simple excellence. In the summer months casual cuisine with a chic twist is served on the outdoor terrace, Ena Sevilla. Visit the Bar Americano with its glamorous deep blue and gold furnishing, gleaming mirrors, leather and velvet sofas and a bar that stretches for 10 meters.
