Casa velha do Palheiro

This five star Country House Hotel was built in the early 19th century as a hunting lodge owned first by the Count of Carvalhal and then by John Burden Blandy. Successive generations of the Blandy family have transformed the estate from traditional farming into leisure-based activities. Fully restored in 1996 the Casa Velha (“Old House”) opened as a hotel on the Palheiro Nature estate. Nestled in the hills to the east of Funchal, the hotel is bordered by the renowned Palheiro Gardens and the par 72 championship Palheiro Golf. Course. Set amidst the estate just steps from the hotel, Palheiro Spa has four treatment rooms, a relaxation room, sauna and Turkish steam bath, refreshing rain and waterfall shower experiences and a fabulous heated indoor swimming pool. Best Gastronomy: in the morning enjoy the sumptuous breakfast served in the hotel’s dining room.
