This charming Madeiran Quinta was built in the 18th century on one of the green hills surrounding the city of Funchal. Over the years it has been the home of well-known French and British families. During the Napoleonic wars, General Beresford, Commander of the British Forces on the island chose it as his residence. The hotel is surrounded by lush gardens with a rich and diverse collection of plants, old trees and colorful, delicate flowers.
