Trancoso
The UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa is a five-star boutique spa hotel set harmoniously in the center of historic Trancoso, an atmospheric fishing village founded by Jesuit missionaries in the 1500’s and today still neighbored by pristine beaches, mangroves and rainforest. The town’s most noted feature is the Quadrado, a 320 by 60-meter grassy town square surrounded by some 50 colorfully-painted, single-story colonial-era casas used as private homes, boutiques and restaurants. The town gained fame for its progressive environmental practices (cars have been forbidden from the historic center already over 40-years and beachfront development has been strictly controlled). Four of Uxua’s casas and the hotel entrance are restored fishermen’s houses on the Historic Quadrado. Hotel facilities include a spectacular, rustic beachfront lounge, which along with the Uxua Quadrado restaurant of Chef Ju Pedrosa serve Bahian fusion cuisine with a healthy twist influenced by the research of the innovative Uxua Vida Lab, run by medical doctor Julian Hamamoto and dedicated to pursuing advanced nutrition and effective spa treatments sourced from the amazing biodiversity of the surrounding area. Unforgettable Moments: enjoy a most romantic stay at the Uxua treehouse including delicious dinner prepared especially by the chef, relaxing massages and scenic horseback ride along Trancososo’s stunning beaches. Best Celebrations: the festive season of Trancoso runs from January 20th with the colorful São Sebastião Festival, followed by an Afro-Bahian celebration for the goddess of the sea, Iemanjá, on February 2nd, and ending with the São Brás celebrations on February 3rd.
