Cabaret talk with Sophie From the Moulin Rouge

Celebrated worldwide for its “French Cancan” and immortalized by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, the Moulin Rouge has always showcased fabulous public “revues”: from la Goulue and Valentin–le-Désossé’s quadrille to the Redoutes and Operettes, from Colette to Mistinguett’s great “revues”, it is still the same concept at the Moulin Rouge.

For 124 years now, the world’s most mythical cabaret venue has welcomed millions of people, eager to admire the renowned shows! During an audition, seven years ago, Janet, the ballet mistress instantly proposes her to join the troupe. Sophie played all the characters, from Doriss to leading lady, she now knows all of the secrets of the mythical revue, the Moulin is a life in itself, a family, a privilege. Dazzling souvenirs, her eyes light up when we talk about the costumes, the jewelry, the feathers, and the 14 nationalities that are part of this dream.

This is simply magical, a few minutes talk with Sophie has turned my head, this dazzling ambiance has overwhelmed me with happiness! I will not forget all these stories, the route, the small stair we had to step down backstage, this vision of so many feathers, costumes, hats, all these female and male dancers. The show is about to start, lights go down, the curtain goes up, the whole troupe walks on stage… I am impressed! Currently, it is still the “Frenchiest” of all shows. Modern, traditional, magical, a world of fairytale!
