The Palais-Royal. Three centuries of architecture. Built for Cardinal of Richelieu, opposite the Louvre, the Palais-Royal became the royal residence of the Orléans family from 1661. The building was completed and modified in the 18th and 19th centuries. The three wings bordering the gardens date back to the late 18th century. Today’s magnificent monumental surroundings give no hint of the revolutionary fervour that abounded here in the 18th century, nor of the gambling houses, immortalized by Balzac, that emerge the following century. A haven of leisure, surrounded by its very trendy monumental setting, one of the favourite spots for locals and tourists to come for a stroll. where both Parisians and tourists come and relax. The Comédie-Française and Palais-Royal theaters together with the Grand Véfour restaurant and its listed décor still draw in the crowds. Contemporary art is also well represented in the main courtyard with the famous columns designed by Buren and two mobile fountains by Pol Bury.

The Comédie-Française is THE House of Molière, nicknamed “the Frenchman”, a French cultural institution founded in 1680. The recently restored Richelieu Room is located in the heart of the Palais-Royal. I love this place… “The classical Repertoire is constantly being revisited, the artists are excellent, costumes and stage direction are updated with a hint of modernity”.

Gardens welcome contemporary art exhibitions

For several years now, it’s been such a pleasure to be able to attend temporary art exhibitions in the Parisian gardens, while breathing fresh air and discovering a great variety of artists.

the Palais-Royal introduces “Les confidents” by Michel Goulet, a re-interpretation of the historical chair of the Palais-Royal, which is so typical of the Parisian gardens.

These two-seater chairs are spread throughout the park, at the disposal of guests who can seat wherever they like within the park and indulge in unique poetical reverie wherever they like.

The Pont des Arts presents Daniel Hourdé’s latest exhibition “La Passerelle Enchantée”.

Invited by the “world’s biggest museum”, Jr sets his heart on one of its symbols, the Louvre Pyramide, for an amazing anamorphosis.

The FIAC, the Paris International Art Fair, takes place “Hors les Murs” from 20-23 October 2016. It’s a major Parisian event presenting a programme of outdoor works in the Tuileries Garden, in association with the Domaine National du Louvre and the Tuileries, extending up to the Place de la Concorde. Afterwards, head towards Place Vendôme, with its spirit of excellence and age-old artisanal savoir-faire. Eastwards, the Jardin des Plantes features a selection of contemporary artworks targeting nature and environmental issues.

And discover the Paris International Art Fair at the Grand Palais and at the Petit Palais.
