The festivities for “the Festa de Sao Sebastiao” can begin from the 19th of January” in front of the 500-hundred-year old church. Enjoy the live music, the dancers and the center of the village shines with a thousand lights. Eat and drink, the party will last until the early hours of the morning when a religious but no less lively procession will take over. After crossing the city, it stops at the church to celebrate mass and after the party carries on. ...Still not tired? On the 2nd of February the inhabitants put on their party clothes again for the “Festas de iemanjá e São Brás”, which attracts many faithful admirers. It is one of the most popular events of the year. Offerings are made to Lemanjá one of the orixas when flowers and scented candles are placed on the sand and in the sea: a real moment of communion. During the carnival period, Trancoso is quieter than Rio but it will only take you 90 minutes to fly to join the samba frenzy, the feathers and the glitter!
